Short Best Man Speeches – Tips For A Perfect Speech
Wednesday, January 27th, 2010Not because you will deliver short best man speeches does it mean that you can forget about preparing it. No, even the shortest speeches require a great deal of preparation. Lack of preparation for a speech for a very special occasion like the wedding is a disaster waiting to happen.
How do you ensure that your speech will go well? Try following these tips.
Deliver it with utter sincerity. More words doesn’t always ensure that you deliver your message across and shorter speeches sometimes have the power similar to lengthy ones. It is enough, sometimes, to say a few words given that you have drive your point well. If you’re going for a short speech, you’ll best stick with lines that can drive your points well.
Be cautious. Keep tabs of comments or words that may across as unguarded or insensitive as these often spoil the mood of the audience. Don’t talk about the groom’s ex-girlfriend whom everyone would rather forget or the bride’s parents whose expressions seem like they don’t want to be sitting in the audience. You get the point – don’t even mention subjects that everyone else would rather not here. When cracking jokes, however, try to be sensitive to what is funny and what is demeaning for the people in the crowd. Also, don’t say jokes that could hurt anyone. If you can’t help but tell everyone your funny joke, just try to phrase it decently so as to avoid hurting anyone.
Try to entertain the guest. Keep yourself away from a speech that has a serious tone. As much as you can, make it light, deliver it as natural as you can (just like when you’re speaking to a small circle of friends) and make it entertaining. Having said that, keep away from boring your audience with flowery language and very formal tone.
Be sensitive to your audience’s ears. A wedding party is composed of a very diverse crowd so age-appropriate materials are very much needed. Children and old people might react to offending words, so try to pick words that are in good taste. Also, refrain from saying swear words when emphasizing certain lines in your speech, it would be better to replace these with witty ones.
Contact several people. Gather extra information from these people. The best people to contact are those other friends of the bride and groom and their relatives who can give you extra materials for your speech.
Keep it short. Unless you and the guests enjoy long speeches, you’d better stick with short best man speeches. In general, however, people prefer short speeches that drive their points. However, it’s shortness should include enough information, a few jokes, and final toasts. A 3- to 5-minute long speech, which has a few jokes, a well-picked anecdote and final remarks is an ideal choice.
